These patterns are experiencing rapid development and developing extraordinary chances for investors. 5G Devices Our brand-new 5G (fifth-generation) cordless networks are a subject I have actually been covering for years now.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic interfered with supply chains last year, an excellent 250 million 5G-enabled gadgets were still offered. Particularly in the second quarter, there were supply chain interruptions, manufacturing hold-ups, and work stoppages. And all of this eventually caused Apple delaying the release of the 5G-enabled i, Phone 12 by two months.
When you think about all of that, offering 250 million systems is impressive. More importantly, the delays triggered by the pandemic developed a load of pent-up demand. Which need is now going to be pushed into 2021. In fact, I anticipate that more than 500 million 5G devices will be shipped in 2021.
Phase Three of 5G When I have actually discussed 5G in the past, I've explained its 3 different stages. In Phase One, the facilities of these new networks is constructed out, including all the new towers and fiber-optic wiring that 5G will need. In Phase 2, 5G devices go on sale.
And in Stage 3, 5G services begin to be provided. That's when we start to see applications running on 5G networks. Think of things like huge multiplayer video games over a mobile phone. That's not possible with 4G. It will be with 5G. And my 2nd 5G prediction for 2021 is that we will start Phase 3 by this summer season.
But they will care if there are amazing applications that can just be accessed with a 5G phone. So increasingly more consumers will go out to buy a 5G phone to gain access to these applications. That leads to more 5G apps being developed. In reality, 5G is going to open up a suite of extraordinary applications: self-driving automobiles, the Internet of Things, robotic surgical treatment, and more.
The financial investment chances going forward will be huge. CRISPR Genetic Editing Stepping away from 5G, the next essential technology I anticipate in 2021 is CRISPR hereditary editing. It's one of the most exciting advancements in biotechnology.
